The Jackson County Sheriff's Department are saying that alcohol was likely a factor in an automobile crash that claimed the life of a motorist on Little Applegate Road Thursday. At 5:42 p.m., a witness made a 911 call that a motorist was driving recklessly and hit another car. Two minutes later, two witnesses called from the same area and said the same green Subaru that had been reported earlier crashed into and through a telephone pole. The driver of the 1996 Subaru Legacy was identified as 74-year old Gary Mumblo of Jacksonville. The driver had to be extricated from the Car. Mumblo allegedly fought with rescue crews as they tried to pull him from the wreckage. He died en route to Providence Medford Medical Center. An investigation is continuing. The impact of the crash caused a portion of the pole to be suspended only by power lines.
