DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - Cal Poly takes on Texas Southern in an unlikely NCAA tournament match-up. Cal Poly is 10-19 after making a surprising run to the Big West Conference tournament title under coach Mike Davis. Texas Southern was 5-9 at the start of 2014, but won their last nine games to take a 19-14 mark into the showdown in the First Four. DALLAS (AP) - SMU hopes to put the disappointment of being excluded from the NCAA tournament field behind them when the Mustangs host 23-11 UC-Irvine in the opening round of the NIT. A three-game losing streak dropped the 23-9 Mustangs out of NCAA tournament consideration but gained them a No. 1 seed in the NIT. PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The 76ers take another shot at breaking out of a now franchise record 21-game losing streak when they host the Bulls tonight in NBA play. Philadelphia is five losses short of tying the NBA record of 26 straight defeats set by Cleveland three seasons ago. CHICAGO (AP) - St. Louis visits Chicago in a battle of NHL Western Conference heavyweights tonight. The Blues have won eight of nine to top the NHL with 101 points. Chicago is tied with Colorado for second place in the Central Division, eight points back of the Blues. Chicago coach Joel Quenneville will be looking for his 700th career victory.
