Alaska Air Beats Analyst Expectations in First Quarter

Ordinarily, the first quarter is a tough one for airlines. Alaska Air, the parent company for Horizon Air is reporting that though earnings fell by 45-percent in the first 3 months of this year, it beat analyst expectations. The carrier earned $40.8 million.

C.E.O.- Elect Brad Tilden says that improvements to their network and new markets help offset rising fuel prices, and gives Alaska Air a strong foothold for the rest of the year.
