Colts Sign Collins To Back Up Manning
Amid concerns that Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning may not be ready to play to open the 2011 NFL season, the team has signed veteran QB Kerry Collins, late of the Tennessee Titans. The 38-year signed with the NFL club today.
The Penn State product-who led the Nittany Lions to a Rose Bowl victory over Oregon in the 1995 Rose Bowl-has led a journeyman's career with stops in Carolina, New Orleans, the New York Giants, Oakland Raiders and the Titans. During the course of his career, Collins has thrown for 206 TDs and over 40-thousand yards, with 195 interceptions.
Manning is recovering from May neck surgery. Prior to the signing, the Colts only had Curtis Painter, Dan Orlovsky and undrafted Mark Hartline to play quarterback.
