Grants Pass Man Arrested for Attempted Kidnapping
22-year old Mathew Wayne Walker of Grants Pass has been arrested on a charge of second-degree attempted kidnapping. At 9:25 Sunday morning, Walker allegedly tried to grab a 10-year old girl who was with her father near the Fairview entrance to Parkway Christian Center. When the father stepped in front of the girl and told her to run, Walker pushed the man, fled and was soon apprehended by police.
Earlier in the day, police responded to a call by employees at a Dutch Bros. stand at the corner of 6th and G Streets. Walker was allegedly creating a disturbance at about 5:51 a.m. and refusing to leave, but eventually left after authorities requested he do so. Walker returned to Dutch Bros. at 6:45 a.m., and displayed hostile behavior. Police transported him from the scene and issued a citation in lieu of arrest for criminal trespass, and released him as he could not be held in jail on the charge.
