County Clerk Cheryl Betschart said in a letter to a petitioner the proposed "local food ordinance" violates state requirements that ballot measures address only a single subject. Eugene activists want to put an initiative on the ballot in May 2014 to ban genetically modified crops in Lane County. The Support Local Food Rights group filed an initial petition Wednesday with the county clerk.
