24-year old Daniel Craig Hlavinka Jr. of Grants Pass has been arrested on charges stemming from an April 24, 2012 home robbery that resulted in the shooting and wounding of Ronald Canepa Jr. A police investigation determined Hlavinka to be the shooter.

Friday, police attempted to stop a car Hlavinka was riding in, driven by 26-year old Tyler James Collins. Collins eluded police and he and Hlavinka jumped out of the car after pulling into the Jade East apartment complex. A witness call led police to a discarded gun on a nearby sidewalk matching the description of the one used in the shooting. Police discovered the gun had been stolen, along with another firearm from a residence in Jackson County. Bullet casings from the robbery scene were a match to the gun.

Shortly after midnight on Sunday April 30, learned that Hlavinka was hiding in a 2nd Street residence. They attempted to establish contact with Hlavinka, while also applying for a search warrent. A SWAT team was called out, neighbors were evacuated, and roads were blocked off. At around 9 a.m., Hlavinka and a woman with him surrendered to a police.

Authorities are still looking for Collins and an unnamed third suspect from the robbery. Anyone who has information is asked to call Detective Ryan Bown at (541) 474-6370.
