Search Continues For Missing Man Swept Into River
Following up on a story from the Dove morning news, searchers were out at first light Friday looking for a man who fell into a roaring stretch of the Rogue River in the Cascade Range of southern Oregon.
Jackson County sheriff's spokeswoman Andrea Carlson says the
21-year-old man was visiting family members in the area. He was
with a group of about 8 people at a pullout off Highway 62 just
northwest of Union Creek Resort late Thursday afternoon when he
fell in and was swept away.
The river is very fast there, swollen with snowmelt, and quickly
flows over a falls into the Rogue River Gorge, a dangerous stretch
filled with boulders and lava tubes.
Carlson says about 30 searchers walked the river with powerful
lanterns until late Thursday night.
