DNA Links Serial Killer To Cold Cases

Portland police say DNA evidence links Randall Woodfield, known as the I-5 Killer, to three deaths from the early 1980s.

Detective Jim Lawrence of the cold case unit says the man known
as the I-5 killer fatally shot a Beaverton woman and two Portland
residents during a crime spree that stretched from Northern
California to Washington state. He says detectives can now prove
Woodfield killed seven people during the spree and committed more
than two dozen robberies, some involving sexual assaults.

The 62-year-old Woodfield is serving a life sentence in the
Oregon State Penitentiary.

He won't be prosecuted for the killings announced Thursday
unless he becomes eligible for parole. Prosecutors say that is a
very slim possibility.
