Medford Residents Not Favorable Towards Stargazing Plan
Medford residents are favoring safety over stargazing. The Mail Tribune reports that the public response has been mostly negative to a pilot project that would turn off street lights in one part of town this summer to save
money and improve the visibility of the night sky during the Perseid meteor shower.
The city sent out 614 letters to residents of the affected area
almost two weeks ago, and 100 of the 148 people who responded were
opposed to the idea.
With a generally negative reaction, the council voted only to
study the idea until the end of June to avoid spending more money
on staff time and postage.
