Fish "By Catch" To Go To Oregon Food Banks
Fish caught accidentally by commercial fisherman while fishing for another will now go to help the needy in Oregon. This is a result of the “Fish Bycatch” bill being signed into law today by Governor John Kitzhaber. He praises the bill as an innovative way to get nutritious protein-rich food to Oregon food banks. John Stubenvoll, director of advocacy for Oregon Food Bank praises Democratic Representative Deborah Boone of Cannon Beach and Republican State Senator Chuck Thomsen for their work as chief sponsors of the legislation.
In Oregon, it is mostly salmon that are caught inadvertently by commercial fisherman.
