Monday Accident Near Bend Kills California Woman

An early morning accident near bend killed a Long Beach, California woman. 62-year old Juan Barbosa was headed south on Highway 97 at 2:10 a.m., when his Dodge pick-up slid on the wet pavement, slid backwards, hit a rock wall, rolled over and came to rest on its wheels.

A passenger, 42-year old Marie Maciel, was pronounced dead at the scene. Barbosa and Maciel’s son, 8-year old Edmar Lopez, were taken to St. Charles’ Medical Center to be treated for their injuries.
