Salem Man Objects to Planned Parenthood Teaching Class
The Salem-Keizer School District may lose a teen pregnancy prevention program. Some are blaming the father of one student complained about using Planned Parenthood instructors in the classroom.
The Salem man, Doug Muravez, says he doesn't have a problem with the lessons, but he objects to Planned Parenthood because it provides abortions.
The Statesman Journal reports the district may not have time or money to have a teacher certified to present the program this fall. If not, the district might discontinue the program that started last fall at North Salem and McKay high schools.
Planned Parenthood received a grant from the Department of Health and Human Services to offer the Teen Outreach Program. Oregon's share is $4 million to reach 2,500 students in the state.
