Southeastern Oregon Wildfire Update
A southeast Oregon wildfire has spread to nearly 250 square miles on Friday and continued to threaten homes near Harney Lake. A fire management team spokeswoman says crews have brought three helicopters to help battle the blaze that began Sunday on grass and sagebrush.
Crews were building fire lines and attempting to fight the blaze back from a rural highway that was closed early Friday. Authorities have recommended evacuations for a handful of residences near Harney Lake, but say two families have chosen to stay.
Fire crews are planning a flyover of the area on Friday to assess damage to cattle. The fire was only 10 percent contained on Friday morning.
