Tsunami Dock Removal Work To Begin July 31st

By Jim McCoy Wed 18th July Newstsunami debris

Most of Agate Beach at Newport will remain open to the public when workers cut up and remove the 66-foot long dock that washed ashore June 5. It had been carried away from a port in Japan by the March 2011 tsunami.

The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department says there will be a safety zone around the dock and portions of the beach may be temporarily closed as sections of the dock are moved. The work is scheduled to start July 31 and is expected to take three to seven days.

Ballard Diving and Salvage of Vancouver is doing the work under an $84,000 contract.
