Police Charge Gold Hill Man With Shooting Dog

A felony animal abuse charge has been filed against a Gold Hill man accused of shooting his bulldog in the mouth with a rifle and then leaving him tied outside a veterinary clinic.

     Rogue River police Chief Ken Lewis says 27-year-old Jason King told him that he shot the dog from a distance last month because it was attacking goats.

     But the police chief told the Mail Tribune newspaper that the bullet entered the dog's mouth at an angle that suggests King shot it "execution style."

     The dog survived and has been named Champ by those caring for him at an Applegate animal shelter.

     King is in the Jackson County Jail on an unrelated domestic violence charge.
