Fort Complex Fire Challenges Crews
Fires triggered by lightning strikes Sunday continue to provide challenges and safety hazards for the crews fighting them. Five fires are are being fought with available resources, according to a press release from the U.S. Forest Service. Hand crews are working strategic line construction, and helicopters are making water drops.
The Lick and Hello fires in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forests, and the Goff in the Klamath National Forest are in steep terrain with difficult access. Large burning logs rolling downhill and torching snags make conditions dangerous.
There is no containment of the Goff Fire, while the Lick Fire is 10% contained and the Hello Fire if 5% contained.
Motorists are urged to use caution if traveling Highway 96 between Happy Camp and Interstate 5. Drive carefully while on Upper Applegate Road as both aircraft and motor vehicle traffic are moving through the area.
Forest Road 1040 is closed, as is Shoofly Trail 854 from Road 1040 to Trail 957, Butte Fork Trail 957 and Horse Camp Trail 958.
