The Latest on the Gold Hill and Barry Point Fires
Over 1,300 firefighters are at work on the Barry Point fire south of Lakeview. According to Rogue Weather.com, at last report, evacuations were in place as extreme fire behavior is being reported.
The fire has scorched over 79-thousand acres of land. It is generating smoke that can be seen as far away as Klamath Falls, some 80 miles away. Hot, dry weather and the low relative humidity has challenged firefighting efforts.
Meanwhile, 40 personnel are dousing the site of the fire that broke out yesterday two miles North of Gold Hill near the sports park. Brian Ballou from the Oregon Department of Forestry tells theDove work will continue throughout the weekend.
No structures were harmed during this blaze. No cause has been determined, though it is believed to be human caused.
