A Medford woman who hosted a party at which a 14-year-old girl died after inhaling helium was arrested on a charge of tampering with a witness. Authorities accuse 28-year-old Katherine McAloon of attempting to get a witness to lie at her upcoming trial on charges of criminal mistreatment, delivery of marijuana to a minor and furnishing alcohol to a minor.

McAloon hosted a party at which teenagers allegedly drank alcohol, smoked pot and inhaled helium from a compressed gas canister. She is the older sister of one of the teens.

Ashley Long collapsed and died when she suffered an embolism after breathing in helium.

The Mail Tribune reports McAloon was lodged Thursday in the Jackson County Jail on $4,000 bail. She is no longer listed as an inmate.
