Wildfire Update: Seiad Valley Residents Alerted for Possible Evacuation
The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Department is issuing a 12-hour evacuation notice in the community of Seiad Valley. This occurs as the Goff Fire approaches their community. Residents will be advised to leave when another warning is given.
Wind patterns Monday are expected to push the fire away from private property; however, the fire could continue back downhill due to rolling, burning materials.
A shelter is being established at the Siskiyou County Fairgrounds in Yreka.
The Goff Fire has burned over 11,712 acres and is at 15 percent containment. 9 engines, 4 water tenders, 18 hand crews and 7 helicopters are fighting the fire.
The Inciweb fire information website is reporting that the Barry Point Fire in Lake County is near full containment. It’s estimated that fire crews will have the 93 thousand acre blaze completely contained by midnight.
No structures were harmed, but some water lines were damaged. Along the way, there was a need for evacuations of the Drew’s Lake area, and the area south of Highway 140.
Closures remain in effect for the Fremont-Winema and Modoc National Forests. The James campground in the Modoc National Forest remains closed.
