Grants Pass Youths, 17 and 12, Honored As Heroes
The Grants Pass Department of Public Safety is honoring two young people for what are described as extraordinary actions. The pair will be honored just before the start of tonight’s Grants Pass City Council meeting.
17-year old Stormie Bradshaw is credited with spotting a June 4th fire and promptly and calmly reported the fire by calling 9-1-1 after she determined no one else was home. She fought the fire with an extinguisher until firefighters could arrive. Bradshaw also had the presence of mind to close the door to the laundry room to keep it from spreading
On June 30th, 12-year old Robert Brooks was watching TV in the living room, while three children, ages five, three and two were taking naps. The five-year-old noticed the fire and told Brooks about it. He went to the bedroom and found a bed on fire with the 3-year-old still on it. He lifted the child off the bed, and rushed the child to safety with the 5-year-old, while yelling the house was on fire. The mother of the 2-year-old removed the youngest child and everyone made it out uninjured.
Both will receive the “Public Safety Honor Citation.”
