By Jim McCoy Fri 7th September Newsalternative energy

Researchers from Oregon State University are helping test a way to generate energy from ocean waves off Newport. A wave energy buoy was moored last week two miles off Yaquina Head for a five-week test. It's a $750,000 prototype owned by Northwest Energy Innovations.

The Oregonian reports OSU scientists are gathering information on its potential impact on marine life.
