Goff Fire Nears Containment

As of this morning, the Goff Fire in the Klamath National Forest is 92 percent contained, and may be fully contained by day's end. Firefighters are in the final stages of containing the northwest corner of the fire, working in the Red Buttes Wilderness in the area between Goff Butte and Butte Fork Trail.

Officials say that smoke will continue to be visible, but that it does not indicate a threat to the fireline. Burning and smoldering inside stumps and logs are not unusual. 

Various road and trail closures will remain in effect for safety reasons. That includes Thompson Creek, Thompson Ridge Rad, Lily Pad Road and Bug Creek Road. By visiting the Klamath National Forest website, the public may keep up with closures pertaining to this fire.

The fire- which started August 5th- was caused by lightning. The Goff Fire has burned 22,248 acres. They have employed 3 engines, 16 hand crews, 9 water tenders, 4 helicopters and 1 dozer.
