Cannon Beach Devises Storage for Tsunami Supplies

By Jim McCoy Mon 17th September Newsnews. Oregon Coasttsunamis

Two 20-foot long shipping containers have been installed on city-owned property in Cannon Beach - ready to receive the emergency supplies residents believe they will need in case of a tsunami. The forest green containers will be opened Oct. 18 for families to store their emergency stashes.

The Daily Astorian reports  that about 60 people have taken the city up on its offer. City officials plan to open the large shipping containers twice a year - in the spring and fall - for people to replace items, such as food and batteries, or to add or change supplies.

The containers were placed on a location expected to be stable enough to withstand an earthquake and out of the tsunami inundation zone.
