Environmental groups contend that the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest is failing to protect coho salmon from dredge mining in the Rogue River Basin, and they have filed a lawsuit. They want to require biologists to review dredging operations to make sure they don’t harm fish.
According to a report in the Medford Mail Tribune, the suit says that consultations by biologists, as required by the Endangered Species Act are not being performed. Groups such as Rogue Riverkeeper want to see these consultations done and have all suction dredge mining banned until then. Cascadia Wildlands and Klamath-Siskiyou Wildlands are also plaintiffs in the suit.
