Intel Plans Expansion of Hillsboro Campus
Intel plans to expand a $3 billion research factory under construction at its campus in Hillsboro. The Oregonian reported Wednesday the chipmaker plans a second module, attached to the building now under construction and due to open next year.
Intel said construction of the second phase will begin next year, and it will start production in 2015. The company said it will also add an office building and a manufacturing support building, along with a parking structure.
The California-based company is Oregon's largest private employer. Thousands have worked on the research factory since construction began on the first phase in 2010. Intel said it expects to add several hundred employees when production starts next year.
