Several Towns Re-Elect Mayors, Phoenix, Gold Hill & Grants Pass Get New Ones

A number or mayoral seats were up for grabs in yesterday’s election. John Stromberg of Ashland held off a challenge from one-time mayor Alan De Boer and organic farmer Keith Erickson, also known as “Biome.” Hank Williams of Central Point, Medford’s Gary Wheeler were re-elected without opposition. Eagle Point’s Bob Russell was also unopposed. One mayor lost his re-election bid. Bucky Steffens of Gold Hill was unseated by former councilwoman Jan Fish. Paul Becker of Jacksonville was elected to the post he was appointed to in January 2011 when the previous mayor stepped down. Becker defeated Jim Lewis, who was the town’s mayor from 1995 through 2008. Councilman Jeff Bellah was elected to replace the retiring Carlos De Britto in Phoenix. Bellah was challenged by Urban Renewal Agency Chairman Steve Schulman. In Grants Pass, Darin Fowler becomes the new mayor. He was a victor over Bill Turrell.
