A burglary suspect who escaped custody at Providence Medical Center in Medford last night was caught shortly after midnight. 22-year old Nathan Wallace faces a variety of charges including burglary, drug possession and resisting arrest.
Earlier in the evening, a married couple who had returned home after being gone for 45 minutes found a suspicious bicycle in the driveway. The husband armed himself with a gun while the wife stepped outside and called 911. The husband found Wallace hiding in a closet.
A neighbor came to the victims’ aid after Wallace tried to flee. The neighbor placed the suspect in a choke hold, and Wallace became partially unconscious as they waited for police to arrive. It was after that Wallace was taken to the hospital.
The suspect was reported to police by an alert citizen who noticed a “suspicious person” at an apartment complex on Spring Street. When police arrived, they found Wallace in a car. Police say he resisted arrest.
