Educators and Legislators are meeting today to try to see what can be done to a dwindling state education budget. Representatives in Southern Oregon will be meeting in advance of next month's legislative session to discuss what has been a yearly cut in education money. While there used to be a 'savings account' for districts to pull from during though economic times, educators like Education Service District Superintendent Scott Perry says those funds have been depleted. In the past legislative session Education budget concerns were moved up higher in the session. While education's share of the budget has been reduced over the past seven years, Legislators like Ashland's Peter Buckley says more needs to be done to help restore earlier cuts. If the education budget is improved this year, the question now is where to make cuts in other areas of the state budget to allow those new hires to take place.
