Sutherlin Teen Arrested in I-5 Rock Throwing Case
Oregon State Police say a 19-year-old Sutherlin man has been accused of throwing a rock from an Interstate 5 overpass, breaking a University of Oregon athlete's jaw.
Distance runner 20-year-old Molly Grabill of Poway, Calif., was driving the car near Rice Hill in Douglas County on Nov. 26 when a rock described as larger than a baseball smashed through the windshield and hit her in the face.
Her passenger, 19-year-old Chris Brewer of Vista, Calif., also a distance runner, tried to take over the wheel, but the car rolled. He suffered minor injuries.
The State Police said Friday they had arrested Mathew McKinney Thursday after they got a tip and questioned him. He's accused of assault, throwing a rock off an overpass, and other charges.
