A boat capsized in the Rogue River yesterday, resulting in the death of 71-year old Geoffrey Lee Wood. He and two others were riding in a drift boat that was part of a group of boaters floating just upstream from the Robertson Bridge Boat Ramp.
A marine deputy with the Josephine County Sheriff's Department who was at the boat ramp noticed a life jacket, thermos and an oar floating downstream and called dispatch. They were receiving at the same time a call of an overturned boat at 2:15 p.m.
The two men riding with Wood were able to grab on to tree branches, and were pulled on board to another boat. Wood continued floating downstream was pulled ashore by another person in the group. Wood was declared deceased at the scene.
