Jackson County has taken over a Cascade Range resort from what an official describes as a struggling concessionaire.
The county's director of roads and parks, John Vial, tells the Ashland Daily Tidingsthe county itself will operate the Howard Prairie Resort when it reopens this spring.
He says the current lease holder is behind $60,000 in payments and $10,000 in taxes.
The resort about 25 miles east of Ashland is closed during the winter.
The resort is scheduled to open April 15 in time for the first day of fishing on April 26.
