The Oregon Fire Marshal’s office is happy to report there were no child fatalities in Oregon fires last year. This is the first year in which this has happened.
22 adults perished in fires in 2012 and 236 civilian injuries. Of the deaths, 62-percent were adults over the age of 60. State Fire Marshal Mark Wallace says their work is far from finished because “one fatality from fire is one too many.” He adds, “We will continue our efforts to improve fire safety education campaigns, as well as fire safety codes, designed to protect all Oregonians.”
