Legislative Committee Holds Hearing on Crisis Pregnancy Center Regulatory Bill

Today, the Oregon Senate Committee on Health Care and Human Services is holding a 3 p.m. hearing on Senate Bill 490, legislation introduced by Planned Parenthood. They contend that Crisis Pregnancy Centers disseminate inaccurate information about abortion and birth control, and that women are "denied needed referrals for basic health services." A press release from Planned Parenthood states that SB 490 would "establish minimum consumer rights by requiring CPCs to post notices accurately disclosing the services they provide and prohibiting them from disclosing personal medical information without consent." Planned Parenthood says the proposed legislation has the support of the Oregon Medical Association, the Oregon Nurses Association a NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon.
