An Eagle Point man was sentenced Monday in Medford to 90 days in jail for keeping three illegal ponds on property he controls. A Jackson County jury convicted 65-year-old Gary Harrington in July on charges that included interfering with the use of water. The Mail Tribune reports Harrington has been repeatedly convicted over an 11-year span for illegally storing water. Officials say he built 20-foot-high dams without permits to capture rainwater. The largest pond is about an acre in size and 13 feet deep. It's stocked with fish and has boat docks. Harrington says the land is now owned by a private membership association, but he still lives on the property and maintains the ponds. Associated Press
