By Jim McCoy Fri 26th April NewsGrants Pass Policehit & run accident
Police in Grants Pass are looking for a dark-colored GMC Jimmy SUV involved in a hit and run incident this morning near the corner of 9th and Riverside. The unnamed 5-year old girl struck by the vehicle has been transported to a Portland hospital to be treated for her injuries. The Grants Pass Daily Courier reports the incident occurred shortly before 8 a.m. and that the driver turned left and sped towards Safeway, leaving the scene. He is described as a "rough looking" man in his late 30s and was wearing a black baseball cap. A resident who lives across the street from where the incident happened says that because of a lack of stop signs or speed bumps, there are frequent problems with speeding drivers. Though the speed limit is posted at 25, the resident says drivers frequently drive through the area at speeds of 50 miles per hour and more. Anyone with information on the driver is asked to call the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety at (541) 474-6370.
