A final public forum is taking place tonight to discuss the proposed Medford School District budget for 2013-14 academic year. District superintendent Dr. Phil Long says the budget fully funds core academics, as well as music, the arts and athletics. The budget also proposes improved security safety features based on assessment after the Conneticut school shooting last December.
In his budget message, Long issues four cautions: the possibility that a tax “kicker” could reduce state funding, the outcome of contract bargaining with teachers, the need for additional funding achieve the security upgrades and the expenditure impact of the proposed VIBES charter school.
Tonight’s meeting will be held at the Roosevelt Elementary commons at 1212 Queen Anne Avenue in Medford. The meeting time is 6 p.m.
