Though a number of eyewitnesses have provided valuable information, Grants Pass Police are continuing to welcome any tips the public may have regarding the hit and run accident that occurred last Friday that injured a 37-year old woman and seriously injured her 5-year old daughter. The girl- Sharon Gongora- is being treated for a skull fracture and multiple fractures at a Portland hospital. Marie Manriquez sustained only minor injuries and was able to accompany her daughter to Portland. The accident occurred SE 9th Street and SE Riverside Avenue at 7:53 a.m. last Friday. The vehicle that struck Manriquez and Gongora was a flat black utility vehicle, possibly a GMC Jimmy. A spare tire was mounted on the back. The driver is described as a white male, possibly in his late 30s, wearing a dark baseball cap and dark sunglasses. Witnesses reported that after the vehicle hit the woman and the child, it failed to stop and sped away and fled north on SE 9th Street. If anyone knows anything, please call the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety (541) 450-6260.
