Tomorrow (Saturday) is pick up day for the "Stamp Out Hunger" campaign. On Thursday, postal customers received in the mail special yellow bags in which they can place non-perishable food items that will go to ACCESS to feed the needy in Jackson County. The bags will be picked up while carriers are on their routes tomorrow.
Philip Yates of ACCESS says an even bigger way to help is to donate to ACCESS. Yates says food for five meals can be purchased for every dollar donated because of ACCESS' buying power. Donations can be made online by visiting www.accesshelps.org.
Last year's Stamp Out Hunger campaign garnered 100,000 pounds worth of donated food for ACCESS. Food bank officials in Oregon note an 11-percent increase for food assistance comparing this year to last.
