The US Forest Service says Bear Camp Road is now officially open for the 2013 season. They say that due to lower snow levels this year, road crews have made quick progress of plowing the road. All seasonal gate closures, including gates off the Peavine-Serpentine and Galice Access Roads, have been lifted. Motorists are advised to use caution when driving through slide areas.
Forestry officials urge careful planning when it comes to using more remote roads such as Bear Camp. They recommend having blankets, food, water and emergency supplies on hand. Bear Camp Road is not recommended for vehicles pulling travel trailers, motor homes, or oversized vehicles.
