Thanks to a strong customer response, sales from Friday, May 3 at Dutch Bros. raised $271,579 to the Muscular Distrophy Association (MDA) in honor of company co-founder Dane Boersma, who died from ALS or Lou Gerigh's Disease in 2009. Since 2007, the drive up coffee and drink retailer has raised nearly $900-thousand dollars to the MDA. Co-founder Travis Boersma, Dane's brother expresses his gratitude, “I’m touched that, every year, our customers bring even more support and love for an organization that means so much to me and affected families everywhere.” "Drink One For Dane" is an annual campaign held on the first Saturday in May. All 198 Dutch Bros. locations in a seven state area participate in the effort. The company grew from a single walk-up stand on 7th Street in Grants Pass in 1992, operated by Travis and Dane Boersma.
