Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber and legislative leaders are scheduled to continue budget negotiations Tuesday.
Kitzhaber met for three hours at the governor's mansion Monday with Democratic House Speaker Tina Kotek and Senate President Peter Courtney, along with Republican House and Senate leaders Mike McLane and Ted Ferrioli.
In a joint statement, they called Monday's discussions "productive and ongoing" and said they'd agreed to continue talking.
Democrats have majorities in the House and Senate, but they'll need Republican votes to get the new tax revenue they're seeking. In exchange, Republicans want steeper cuts to public-employee pensions, which Democrats have resisted.
Lawmakers have until the end of the month to adopt a new spending plan for the next two years.
