Security Technology Set Up At Shady Cove School

With money from drug seizures, the Jackson County Sheriff's Department has purchased a security system they say will give classrooms direct access to a school's main office and first responders in the event of an emergency. Precision Electric and Adroit Construction donated man hours to install the NEXAR SOS system, developed by Future Concepts of California. Shady Cove Middle School is the first on the nation with this technology installed in its classrooms. The Sheriff's Office and Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon both have command centers located inside each of the school's buildings. The system is activated when a teacher pushes a panic button. When the system is activated, real time video of the classroom are shown in the command center in the school's main office and within law enforcement agencies. Other security measures such as door locks and status indicators are activated. This give agencies access they've never had until this time; access critical when responding to an emergency. A video clip provided by spokesperson Andrea Carlson is embedded in this story.
