A metal tank found by a passer-by in a Medford alley off of Hamilton Avenue Friday turned out to be a homemade bomb. The device- about the size of a two liter bottle- was found in an alley between 12th and 13th Streets at around 1:30 in the afternoon. An Oregon State Police bomb squad removed the explosives.
According to a report in the Medford Mail Tribune, the device had been lit, but the fuse fizzled out before detonation. Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau said “We got lucky on this one.” The bomb had the capacity to break glass and go through fences in a densely populated area.
Authorities are conducting a door-to-door investigation.
