The Oregon State Police is continuing the investigation of a fatal motorcycle crash scene discovered by an ODOT maintenance crew Monday along Highway 140E about one mile west of Adel in Lake County.
According to Sgt. Steve Yates, an ODOT striping crew was working along Highway 140E near milepost 27 when a crew member spotted a motorcycle over an embankment at around 3:15 p.m. Monday Upon further inspection, the ODOT crew found the body of a man near the crashed motorcycle and notified OSP.
The preliminary investigation indicates the 2001 Yamaha motorcycle operated by 70-year old Albert Lewis Gundelach Jr. was eastbound negotiating a left curve when it traveled off the roadway and down an embankment approximately 70 feet where it came to rest. The motorcycle and operator were partially hidden from view by a tree.
Gundelach was wearing a protective helmet. His current residence is pending confirmation but investigators learned he has had residences in Concord, California and La Pine and Springfield, Oregon.
At this time, OSP investigators haven't confirmed the date and time the crash occurred.
