Commercial Driver Cited For Fatigue-Related Crash

A commercial truck driver apparently fell asleep at the wheel whiel traveling on Highway 31 this (Monday) morning, causing the paint and thinner he was hauling to spill inside the trailer. MazMat personnel are assisting with offloading the paint. At 5:03 a.m., 54-year old Dennis C. Chaffin of Cilcoot, Ca., was pulling two trailers near the Highway 97 junction, when he traveled off the road. An officer says Chaffin apparently over-corrected when he tried to return to the road. The truck overturned and slid through the intersection. Chaffin was not injured and was using safety restraints. He was cited for careless driving and failure to obey traffic control devices.
