The Medford Water Commission won't join neighboring cities trying to delay the need for upgrading treatment plant.
The Mail Tribune (http://bit.ly/1iPwpzK ) reports Thursday that commission members say their primary mission is supplying water to the people of Medford, and they have already adopted many of the conservation strategies the group is promoting.
The cities of Talent, Phoenix, Central Point, Eagle Point and Jacksonville want to form a cooperative to look at water conservation with the goal of delaying a $70 million upgrade of the Robert A. Duff Water Treatment Plant sometime around 2025 to keep pace with increased water use.
Phoenix Mayor Jeff Bellah says Medford uses a lot more water per capita than Phoenix does.
Water Commission Chairman Jason Anderson says Medford has a lot more industrial water use.
