A proposal has been announced by Southern Oregon University that if enacted as proposed will cut five full-time professors, 10 majors and 12 minors. SOU President Mary Cullinan says "It's very sad."
Under the proposed plan, almost all of the physic department would be cut, as well as art history, international studies, among others. Minors such as French, musical theater, professional writing and land-use planning would be eliminated.
Cullinan says the plan will be subject to a 20 day feedback period, allowing for alternative suggestions. Proposed cuts are among majors and minors with the fewest number of students. Students in those areas of study will be grandfathered out.
The Ashland-based university plans between three and five million dollars in cuts over the next three years.
