The Oregon Department of Transportation says that there will be no extension of the studded tire season, so studded tires must be removed by Monday, March 31.
The occasion provides ODOT the opportunity to encourage motorists to consider other traction tires. They cite a 2000 study that concluded that studded tires cause at least $40 million damage each year on city streets, county roads and state highways. There are other traction tires that meet standards for use in severe snow conditions, an ODOT press release says. They also say these tires offer better traction than studded tires on bare pavement.
