By Jim McCoy Wed 2nd April Newsassaultpolice standoff
A standoff between Medford police and an assault suspect has ended with the suspect surrendering to authorities. The standoff was the result of a conflict between roommates. Medford Police Lt. Mike Budreau told the Mail Tribune newspaper that the two men got into a fight, resulting in multiple injuries to the 27-year old victim. He tried to walk to Providence Medford Medical Center from the Royal Avenue apartment where the two men lived, but he collapsed in the parking lot. Moments earlier, the victim called police at 2:45 a.m. The 29-year old suspect allegedly pulled a gun on the victim, but did not fire it. Police spent hours trying to coax the suspect out, but to no avail. Royal Avenue was closed at 8 a.m. to traffic, and nearby apartments were evacuated as well. A SWAT team was called in due to a firearm being involved. He surrendered shortly afterward. The men's names have not yet been released, and the condition of the victim is unknown.
